Following consultation with a range of community organisations across the county, our membership scheme has been designed to offer support that is specifically tailored to the needs and concerns of community organisations. Offered at a cost of £95/year (+VAT), RCAN membership provides your group with personalised support and access to Nottinghamshire’s specialist rural organisation.

Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire has nearly a hundred years of experience working across Nottinghamshire. Click on the headings below to find out more about what we do and how we can help your group:

Community Planning

RCAN has experience working alongside specialist community organisations, local and district councils, and individual stakeholders to provide community planning support, tailored best practice advice, and guidance for using community planning to implement lasting and sustainable change.

Transport and Access Support

RCAN works to ensure that all rural locations have access to travel solutions to ensure that nobody is isolated from access to vital services, employment, and mobility.

Consultation and Engaging the Community

RCAN have a wealth of experience in conducting community consultation on a range of issues from sporting facilities, to road safety, to local development. We believe in placing the voice of the community at the very heart of the consultation process, ensuring that local people can help shape local solutions.

Health and Wellbeing

Ensuring that communities throughout our county have access to healthcare and wellbeing services remains a top priority.

Economic Regeneration and Funding

RCAN has a proven track record in assisting community groups with tailored funding advice, fundraising factsheets, and good practice studies. We specialise in seeking out suitable funding for different projects, community groups, and community initiatives.

Regional Rural Policy

RCAN is one of 38 ACRE member organisations which forms a national network of advisors, policymakers, and rural specialists who work to ensure that rural issues are on the table in policy discussions, both local and national.

Raising the Rural Voice

We here at RCAN remain committed to our pledge to ensure that our communities are supported so that no one is disadvantaged by where they live. Using our connection to ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England), we work to ensure that the rural voice is heard in both local and national discussions.

“Of course, the Village Hall and Playing Fields Committee will want to renew its membership of RCAN – without you and ACRE over the last 2 years, I don’t know how we would have managed! The help and support in guiding the Committee through Covid-19 restrictions/grants has been outstanding. Thank you all so much. RCAN has enabled the Committee to come through this tough time, financially and with confidence!”

Lowdham Village Hall, Newark and Sherwood

“We very much appreciate all that RCAN has done in the last few years. Your advice in the pandemic was invaluable.”

Maplebeck Village Hall, Newark and Sherwood

“I recently joined RCAN and have been very pleasantly surprised at the level of professional support I have received from them in such a short length of time. They must be busy but they always make me feel that they have all the time in the world for me.”

St. Wilfrid’s Parish Hall, Ashfield

“I would certainly say that membership is essential to ensure the receipt of current advice regarding the management of a hall, having an organisation that can clarify how legislative and other Gov.uk guidelines might impact on the efficient running of a hall (Covid-19 guidelines are a case in point), identifying sources of funding and grants and providing a network to advertise and promote one’s organisation.”

Rempstone Village Hall, Rushcliffe
